Welcome to the web site for one of Kansas City's finest Boy Scout Troop, Troop 601! In the fall 1966, the school at STM opened with 203 students. Shortly thereafter, Troop 601 and Pack 601 were formed. Formed in 1967, with just a handful of boys and leaders, Troop 601 is now consisted a large troop with over 70 active boy scouts. Sponsored by the St. Thomas More Parents for Scouting, meetings are held on Monday evening (regular meetings are not held during the summer months) at Saint Thomas More in South Kansas City. Usually the boys and adult leaders head off into the great outdoors once a month to hike, camp, and have fun. Summers typically find the boys heading to H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for 10 days to have fun and learn while earning more merit badges.
Troop 601 is known for their service. Service to their community and Service to their Nation! Boys have assisted in many service projects around the Parish as well as outside the parish. Beside two Pancake breakfasts, the Troop has proudly held a Fish Fry during lent. Folks return year after year on Fridays during Lent to support the Scouts. In fact, many customers are former Troop 601 scouts and leaders. There have been a handful of Eagle Scouts, who have dedicated service to their Nation as well, (Click here for a Current List of Current and Former troop 601Eagle Scout in the Military)
The Troop was camped at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, Camp Naish, Camp Geiger, Philmont Scout Ranch, The Charles L. Sommers , the Northern Tier National High Adventure program, Rocky Mountain High Adventure Camp, Floridia Sea Base and numerous other outings through the years! We usually take one weekend trip every month or hold an day long actitivty!
